Topozone.com list of post office locations in White Pine County has Skaggs as unknown. An order to establish Skaggs post office was issued September 10, 1906 and rescinded on March 25, 1907. C.L. Skaggs was appointed the postmaster.
Although different spellings have been applied to the name Skaggs (Skeggs and Scaggs) it is possible Skaggs was located in the Bald Mountain Mining district. J.M. Hill, Mines of Cherry Creek, Ely Range and other Eastern Nevada Districts, writes about The Copper Basin group of 25 claims that covered the divide at the south fork of Water Canyon. Hill states, "It is the property of Simonson & Hannon, of Skelton, Nevada, but is known as the Scaggs property."
Shawn Hall, Romancing Nevada's Past, in an article on the camp of Joy located in the Bald Mountain Mining District, writes that "Charlie Skeggs controlled 22 claims that made up the Bald Mountain Copper Basin Group." Records show that some carbonate ore was shipped from the Copper Basin Group in 1905 and 1906.
